Lateefat, the Social Advocate!
Lateefat’s lived experiences of bullying in the academic community, where she served as a lecturer during her early work career, is one of her motivations to stand at the forefront of any kind of injustice for young females in and outside of academia. As a young lecturer, her situation broadly defined her as “never give up” notwithstanding her gender status. She continues to use her position as a thought leader in providing soft skills and tools of empowerment in liberating people going through oppression, discrimination, coercive control, and abuse. As a Pan-Africanist, Lateefat casts a niche in Africa’s transformation pathway by founding One Young African, a storytelling company established to enhance literacy and promote Indigenous education through stories, African oral traditions, and culture.
She is a member of the National Organization for Arts in Health, United States Green Building Council of California, YOUNGO UNFCC, Society of Community Research and Action Division 27 of the American Psychological Association, and Co-Chair of African American Business Resource Group at Atlantic Health System, New Jersey.
She pioneered a moonlight storytelling initiative using African Oral Tradition and Folktales to promote community care, collective healing, holistic wellness, and engagement. This was the first of its kind! She resonated with Africa’s renaissance through her work by deploying creative processes rather than the usual “freedom fighting” approach. She loves to see Africa thrive and not struggle. She is one of Africa’s most influential scholar-activist and public interventionist.
My Story Café
As an integral part of African culture, storytelling has a healing power. I am rejuvenating the power of storytelling to motivate young people to not only adopt ‘reading culture’ as often advocated but also embrace the culture of listening and sharing experiences as a brand of knowledge and awareness. I will be hosting story café around the world where a group of people will come together with their tea, coffee, and water to discuss several story prompts and the lessons they learned from it. Through the story café, I will connect with families, organizations, and communities.
Book me now for your story reading, creation, witnessing, story listening, and story-sharing sessions, workshops, and events.
My Story Clinic
The need for crisis resolution clinics is increasing. As a person who understands the power of storytelling for healing, I opened the first virtual story clinic to attend to my clients in a very engaging and interesting manner, away from the usual clinical pattern, so they can narrate their stories and discuss their issues, thereby assisting them in using their own stories for personal transformation and healing. Stories have the power to convey messages in an accessible and relatable manner to foster connection and a deeper understanding of issues.
As a Story Psychologist, my podcast session titled “The Story Within” is dedicated to the remote healing process. Be part of my podcast hub, where different stories are shared and reflected upon together to provide healing to individuals going through severe emotional crisis, lonely people, and those that are socially disconnected. My Story Clinic also uses animated characters to read stories to children to help them calm and engage in various exercises with the animated features. My podcast represents the old ‘Tales by Moonlight,’ the popular space for building social connections in the olden days. The significant outcomes from the story clinics will form a basis for action and drive better healthcare Policy advocacies in various African countries.

Launching Afrofuturistic Story Club Soon!!!
I am launching Afrofuturistic Story Club to preserve oral, written and digital storytelling traditions. This club will explore Afrofuturism through children’s literature. I will be reading and discussing books that focus on Black and Afro descendant characters in futuristic worlds, inspiring creativity and mind development among young readers. Meet-ups will feature interactive activities, storytelling and arts projects that celebrate African heritage, culture and
imagination. Whether children are interested in sci-fi, or any other genre, I hope to explore the themes of technology, culture and identity by creating the first virtual African Museum that will house important and historic memories of slave trade era and beyond that journey. Afrofuturistic stories preserve our rich cultural heritage and values. I will be ensuring that this platform is an incubator for new and generative stories.
